BRONZE SCULPTURES

2015

This series of bronze sculptures was based on the form below. A balloon filled with plaster was cradled until the plaster set creating a fetal like form. The mould was made of the plaster form and cast in marble resin (below).

Using the same mould a casting was made using hessian and Jesmonite. A new mould was made of the second form, which was very textured. It was then cast in wax and then bronze. The original texture of the hessian can clearly be seen in the bronze detail above

Two works were made with this process.Take Two and Re-formation.

TAKE TWO

Take Two (below) reflects that we are all individually different but the same. The two identical cast fetal like forms are arranged in a pair. Both forms are the same but individually different because during casting subtle differences are created during the process.

RE-FORMATION

(Below) the process of casting in wax is allowed to alter the shape by taking it out of the mould before the wax has set  so that each form collapsed slightly differently, the pieces were then welded together. Repetition creating difference, not replication.
